The from-price is the 9,000 ft jump: altitude is the real choice.
Queenstown is home to NZONE, which has flown tandems here since 1990
and says it was the country's first tandem operation. You check in at its centre on Shotover Street, watch a
video briefing, then ride about 20 minutes to a private airstrip on farmland at the foot of the Remarkables.
The plane climbs over the Wakatipu basin, and you jump directly above the drop zone.
The listing price covers the lowest jump. Each step up buys more freefall: up to 25 seconds from 9,000 ft,
45 from 12,000 ft and 60 from 15,000 ft. NZONE's own prices are NZ$379, NZ$469 and NZ$575, and the photo and
video packs (NZ$220 to NZ$395) are paid on the day. Hotel pickup is not part of it, and wind or cloud can

The skydive starts and ends in the middle of town. After check-in and the briefing, the courtesy coach drives
you about 20 minutes to NZONE's private airstrip at the base of the Remarkables, set on a working sheep farm,
and brings you back afterwards. The drop zone has a viewing area, lockers, toilets, free wifi, and drinks and
snacks to buy.

Wakatipu is the biggest thrill on the menu. Here is what you actually pay, how the day runs, and how to give

Who runs the Queenstown skydive
The Queenstown jump on Viator is operated by NZONE Skydive, which has run tandem skydives here since 1990 and
describes itself as New Zealand's first tandem skydive operation. It flies two Cessna Grand Caravans, each
carrying up to nine tandem customers, from a private airstrip at the base of the Remarkables. Its sister
company, Skydive Wanaka, runs the jump over Lake Wanaka about an hour and a half away. On a tandem you need no
training: you are harnessed to an experienced Tandem Master who opens the parachute, steers and lands for you.
The climb to altitude takes 15 to 20 minutes, with the lake and mountains below.
What it really costs
NZONE's 2026 prices are NZ$379 for 9,000 ft, NZ$469 for 12,000 ft and NZ$575 for 15,000 ft. The Viator listing
starts at about $217, which matches the 9,000 ft price, and you choose the height at checkout. Then come the
extras: the handicam photo and video pack is NZ$220, a dedicated freefall photographer NZ$333, and both
together NZ$395, and you cannot take your own camera. A 15,000 ft jump with the full combo is close to NZ$1,000,
so decide what you want before you get to the counter.
The honest small print: the complaints in the reviews are rarely about the jump itself.
They are about weather: cancelled slots, long waits and, in at least one review, a dispute over a refund. NZONE's
published policy is to move you to the next suitable slot and refund you in full if you cannot rebook, so book
early in your stay, keep a spare day, and keep your booking messages.
Which height is worth it?
Height buys time in freefall, not a different view on the way down: up to 25 seconds from 9,000 ft, up to 45
from 12,000 ft and up to 60 from 15,000 ft, all at about 200 km/h. The flight up is also longer and higher, with
more of the Southern Alps in sight. If the budget allows, 15,000 ft gives you the most for the trip up; Skydive Wanaka calls it its most popular jump.
Children 12 and under can only jump from 9,000 ft, and the minimum age is 6.

Queenstown, Wanaka or a bungy?
Queenstown wins on convenience: check-in is on Shotover Street, the drop zone is 20 minutes away, and the
whole thing takes three and a half hours. Wanaka has the same prices and a view over Lake Wanaka, Lake Hawea and the Southern Alps, but
from Queenstown it becomes a day of about six hours with the transfer. If what you want is the shortest,
sharpest fall, the 134 m Nevis Bungy gives you about 8.5 seconds of it, with photos included.
